This book began as a practical necessity. Faced with the challenge of providing live music for a feis, I quickly realized that no complete resource of set dances was available. What started as a personal project of transcribing tunes from recordings has grown into a collection that I hope will serve many others.
My wish is that this volume will lighten the burden for musicians who take on the demanding role of feis accompanist. The task requires stamina, accuracy, and deep familiarity with the repertoire, but with the right tools it becomes not only manageable but also rewarding.
These traditional and modern set dances represent a unique intersection of music and dance. Each tune is bound to a specific choreography, connecting centuries of tradition with the creativity of dancers and teachers today. By gathering these melodies into one accessible source, I hope to contribute to the preservation of this living heritage and to encourage musicians to engage with it more confidently.
